K-2 Scientists at work

Elementary Science Day 2024

This year’s theme for our elementary science day was S.T.E.A.M. - Science, technology, engineering, art and math. The event was held on Wednesday, April 24, There were seven different activities that the K-2nd grade students rotated through that were facilitated by high school students.

Each station addressed how art is a part of each of the hard sciences.

At one station they built and decorated brush bot robots while learning about electrical circuits.

At another station students learned how ink is made of different colors that can be separated with solvents. They tested this by making coasters from tile, sharpie and isopropyl alcohol.

Other stations studied sound waves, the rock cycle, air pressure, fractions, and how a person's center of gravity works, creating Kazoos, crayon metamorphic rocks, air ball spinners, fraction greeting cards, and cork finger bobbles.

Our high school sophomores and some juniors were wonderful instructors, passing on what they have learned while instructing the younger children in our school.
